Faraday Undergraduate Summer Experience (FUSE)
Exciting Faraday Undergraduate Summer Experience (FUSE) paid internship opportunities for summer 2025.
Studying a STEM degree? Wondering what career to pursue? Interested in finding out more about the battery sector? Keen to spend time with a dynamic community of pioneering battery researchers seeking to find solutions to support a fully electric future?
The Faraday Institution is offering a total of 48 internships, for undergraduate students to spend 8-weeks working on battery related projects.
Project title: Battery Scale Up Facility for Capability Demonstration and Prototyping
Location: University of St Andrews, School of Chemistry, St Andrews and Eden Campus, Guardbridge, St Andrews
Supervisor: Professor John Irvine, University of St Andrews
Start date: The internship is a full-time role for 8 weeks, starting in June and must be completed by 5th September 2025. A salary of £4,166 is payable over the 8 week period.
The student will initially focus upon optimisation of particle size, conductive additive, binder type and solvents. Performance with different loadings will be optimised by controlling rheology. Electrode structure and thickness will be optimised via careful calendaring using in-house electron microscopy capability for guidance. The best formulations will then be made into pouch-cell batteries and evaluated. The student will be working with the scale up team on our Eden Campus utilizing this facility during the first months of operation. Some engagement in troubleshooting and process optimization is envisaged.
Eligibility:
• Be registered full-time undergraduate student from a UK university.
• Undertake the internship within the years of their undergraduate study (i.e., not in final year or during a subsequent Masters’ programme).
• Not have been a FUSE intern in a previous year
Funding:
An hourly rate will be funded by the Faraday Institution
Additional activities:
During the FUSE internship you will be able to attend Faraday Institution cohort events which will focus on a variety of topics to further develop your understanding of career opportunities in battery sector. At the end of the programme, you will be invited to to share a poster about your work and prizes will be awarded.
