Gavin J Irvine

Post Doctoral Research Assistant, 2021 – Present

Gavin graduated from Emory & Henry College (2011) with a BSc in Chemistry, and a minor in Mathematics. He went on to complete a masters (research) at the University of Notre Dame (2013) in Chemical Engineering. He completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of St Andrews (2021) with a thesis entitled “Studies of Hydride Ion Conductors using Combined Spectroscopy Techniques”. His main focus is on hydrogen related technologies having worked with several industrial partners focusing on novel electrolysis methods, and hydrogen compression/storage. Currently, he is working with the ENSIGN project (Home – Ensign) which is focused on developing models and eventually digital twins of future energy system, specifically focused on the electrical distribution network. As part of this project, he is managing and conducting research on the 80 kW University of St Andrews electrolyser located on St Andrews’ Eden Campus.
