Postdoctoral researcher, 2013 – present
George graduated in 2007 from the department of Materials Science, University of Patras, Greece. During his undergraduate studies he specialised in Smart Materials systems and his diploma thesis was on Shape Memory Alloys. During his undergraduate studies he had his industrial traineeship at the Department of Quality Control – Department of Materials Testing of the “Hellenic Arms Industry”. He obtained his MSc (Jul 2010) and his PhD (Jan 2012) from the department of Chemical Engineering, University of Patras, Greece. During his post-graduate studies he worked in the laboratory of Ceramic and Composite materials, under the supervision of Prof. P. Nikolopoulos and in collaboration with Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany and he specialised in Advanced Ceramic Materials (functional and structural) for use in SOFCs.
After he was awarded his doctorate, he was occupied by the Greek army as a production assistant in the R&D department of 691 Military Factory, Greece. In parallel he was a part time post-doctoral research assistant in Prof. P. Nikolopoulos research group, University of Patras (Greece), in collaboration with Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany, focusing his work on insulating materials in contact with metals and ceramics for high temperature applications. Since July 2013 he is a research fellow in the JTSI group, working in the Direct Carbon Fuel Cell project.
